Vardos

Vardos are a stunning trio, serenading and interacting with their audiences with Transylvanian dance tunes, popular Hungarian cafe concert music and the latest horas from Bucharest, driven by Alana's wild violin, supported by Sofia (accordion) and Indra (double bass). Energetic, fun and always entertaining, Vardos generate tremendous enthusiasm wherever they play...

Vardos have roamed extensively through Eastern Europe learning from Roma (gypsy) musicians as well as performing in Hungary, Switzerland, London and Berlin. They have also toured to New Zealand and every state of Australia and appeared on "Spicks and Specks" ABC TV . They have supported "The Cat Empire" and "Gipsy Kings" in Melbourne as well as having successful shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, appearances on Scottish television and the BBC News, and were nominated for the BBC Radio3 World Music Awards.

"With stagecraft that is equal parts formation dancing, martial arts and Keystone Cops, the violin-accordion-double bass trio play with formidable panache, spinning the tunes into a dizzying procession of crescendos and false stops. ...Vardos don't hold back.
