If you’re a sucker for a tear-jerker, if you insist on your music being older than the musicians playing it and like your banjo players loud, High & Lonesome will take you on a journey down the Lost Highway through a polished repertoire of bluegrass, traditional country, celtic blues and 70s classics.
In the 1920's through the 1940's, PA systems for music used a single microphone. Band members gathered closely around this single mic and balanced themselves by moving toward or away from the microphone. Radio broadcasts and recordings used one mic as well. High & Lonesome have revived and perfected the one mic technique. As well as providing a dynamic and balanced natural sound for stringed instruments and vocal harmonies, there is a strong visual element bringing an often humorous emphasis to the music.
Although not a Bluegrass band in the usual sense, High & Lonesome are highly regarded for their polished sound and diverse repertoire. They have appeared at numerous festivals and community events including the Kelly Country Pick – Australian Bluegrass Association, Birregurra Street Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Maldon Folk Festival, the Guildford Banjo Jamboree, Cygnet Folk Festival, The Tamar Valley Folk Festival, as well as numerous venues around the State.
