Red Hot Rhythmakers

Red Hot Rhythmakers present the hot and sweet sounds of 1920s and 1930s jazz bands such as those led by Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington and King Oliver. Using original manuscripts as well as custom-written charts, they bring new life to the sounds of the Jazz Age. Led by highly-regarded multi-instrumentalist Michael McQuaid, and featuring the charming vocals of Sandra Talty.

Since their very first performance, Red Hot Rhythmakers have played to packed houses and standing ovations, and toured Australia, playing concerts, dances and jazz festivals. They released a critically-acclaimed debut album in January 2006. Their driving rhythm section, wailing saxes and roaring brass will be sure to keep your ears happy – and your feet!

“This is easily one of the best Australian bands on the scene today. With wonderfully evocative arrangements by their talented young leader, the repertoire consists of various periods of classic American and Australian jazz. The nine-piece personnel comprises highly trained male and female musicians all in their twenties. Great music and a certain crowd pleaser.” - Graeme Bell AO, MBE - Australian jazz icon
